"Improved Inflow Forecasts for Hydropower" marks the 8th annual workshop of the CEATI Water Management Interest Group. Past topics have included decision-support software and hydrologic data collection.

The CEATI program provides utilities with a cost-effective and “closed door” vehicle for sharing experiences and addressing issues pertinent to their day-to-day operations and planning. In addition to serving as a strong technical resource tool, the CEATI program model is also structured to accommodate project collaboration opportunities yielding practical deliverables in which utilities can leverage their expenditures.

The Water Management Interest Group
The scope of the Water Management Interest Group (WMIG) is to focus on the development of methods & tools required to optimize hydraulic processes while maintaining safe and environmentally-friendly operations. Topics of interest include watershed management and water use planning, meteorological forecasting (water, ice, flow), operational modeling (benchmarking and performance measurement), data acquisition techniques, and impact assessment (flow, environmental requirements).

The Dam Safety Interest Group
Topics of interest include risk assessment for dam safety, the use of geophysical methods in the diagnostics and monitoring of embankment dams, erosion and piping in dams, reliability of discharge facilities, ice loadings, probability (frequency) of extreme floods, emergency preparedness, testing of embedded dam anchors.

The Hydraulic Plant Life Interest Group
Topics of interest include intakes/spillways and all manner of generating facility structures and equipment, plant modernization guidelines and methods, diagnostics and monitoring of equipment and structures, O&M cost reduction techniques and experiences, turbine and generator development studies, plant personnel policies, risk management.
