History

CEATI International’s roots date back to the 19th century, with the founding of the Canadian Electric Association (CEA) in 1891

In 1974, CEA established an R&D program restricted to Canada’s 10 provincial utilities, in order to better serve the needs of these electric utilities.

In 1996, Jacob Roiz was named Managing Director of CEA’s R&D program, which was restructured and incorporated as CEA Technology Solutions. The Technology Solutions program was sponsored by the 16 largest utilities in Canada.

In 2001, the R&D program was renamed CEA Technologies Inc. and began to operate independently of CEA. Jacob Roiz was appointed President & CEO and Richard Drouin, the former Chairman and CEO of Hydro-Quebec, was appointed as Chairman. These decisions allowed CEA Technologies to support expansion on an international level.

As of January 1, 2008, the organization officially became known as CEATI International Inc.

Currently 120 organizations from 14 countries are participating in the various programs offered, 2000 projects were completed and reports published, and over 140 projects are ongoing.

A substantial amount of CEATI projects have been adopted as National and International standards and numerous guides have been recognized as points of reference for practical information. As well, much of the software and hardware developed and commercialized by CEATI has become prevalent and extensively used throughout the world.
