Following the Distribution Assets Life Cycle Management (DALCM) Interest Group’s fall 2011 General Meeting, DALCM is initiating eleven new projects as part of its 2012 program.
The meeting, which took place on October 27-28, 2011 in Vancouver, B.C., was an opportunity for DALCM participants to assess proposals submitted on a wide range of topics, review the progress of ongoing projects, share the results of utility initiated surveys, and listen to expert presentations on cutting-edge topics such as nanotechnology, and on topics relating to day-to-day issues faced by distribution asset managers. With a membership representing nearly 40 utilities from around the world, DALCM General Meetings provide attendees with a noteworthy opportunity to network with leading experts and gain knowledge of current distribution trends.

CEATI Announces Additions to the SOIG Executive Committee

November 29th, 2011
The Strategic Options for Sustainable Power Generation Interest Group (SOIG) is pleased to announce the new Executive Committee for 2012. Mr. Ravi Seethapathy of Hydro One has now completed his two-year term as Chair, and during the last SOIG General Meeting in Montreal he was recognized for his outstanding efforts and contributions to the SOIG program. He will continue to share his knowledge as an advisor to the Committee. Advancing from her previous position as Vice-Chair, Ms. Helen Whittaker of BC Hydro will take over as the new Chair. New to the team, and joining her as Co-Vice Chairs, will be Claudia Banner of American Electric Power and Lovleen Bassan of Ontario Power Generation. Both Ms. Banner and Ms. Bassan bring many years of valuable experience to the position, and their combined areas of expertise will be important assets to the program moving forward.

Hydro Utilities Gather in Pittsburgh to Discuss Plant Operations and Maintenance, Reliability Improvement and Asset Management Best Practices

The Hydraulic Plant Life Interest Group (HPLIG), with representation from over 55 utilities spanning 11 countries, held its fall General Meeting in Pittsburgh, PA on September 22-23, 2011.Chairman Andrew Datsko (First Energy, Lake Lynn Plant Manager) opened the meeting discussing the importance of maintaining safety best practices during corporate mergers.
Serving as the largest utility platform in the hydropower industry, the meeting program included vibrant round table discussions covering asset management strategies, alarms management, performance of greaseless bushings, plant control systems, quality control and assurance when procuring equipment, justifying rehabilitation as well as transformer failures and fires. Participants had a notable opportunity to network with leading experts and gain knowledge of current utility trends from around the globe.

CEATI releases report on non-energy benefits of hydro

CEATI International Inc. has published a new report entitled Quantifying the Non-Energy Benefits of Hydropower.
The technology report finds that the rapid growth of wind energy has led to the use of hydroelectric plants to firm wind generation. As a result, hydro’s capacity to provide reserve power has been weakened, which threatens the reliability of all electrical transmission.Read more…


CEATI releases report on headgate testing protocols
March 2011
CEATI International Inc. has released Hydraulic Station Headgate Testing Protocols.
The goal of the CEATI conducted study was to create a protocol for headgate testing practices which would be useful to both hydro plant owners and operators. This report details the results of that study.
