Assessment of Damage to Customer Owned Equipment Due to Abnormal Voltage Conditions

The objective of the project is two fold:
1. To assess the magnitude and frequency of damage to customer-owned
equipment due to abnormal voltage (due to different causes); and
2. To determine how utilities handle customer inquiries and resulting
claims.
A comprehensive questionnaire was sent to 30 utilities in Canada and 13
utilities in the United States. The study also involved an extensive
literature search, contacts with manufacturers of electronic equipment
and standards associations. The policies, procedures exercised by
various utilities and recommendations are presented in the report.
