De-Icing Techniques Before, During, and Following Ice Storms [Two Volumes]
|
|
This report presents the results of an extensive search to draw up an inventory of all existing de-icing techniques susceptible to be applied on power lines, before, during and following icing storms. The literature survey conducted covers the period of the last 40 years. Enough information on application parameters of de-icing technologies was found to identify progress directions, not only from the technical side, but also from their acceptance by managers. Line maintenance de-icing tools can be made safer and more efficient, with newly available technologies such as: power electronics, communication, transportation, robots, energy storage/releasing devices, etc. With better knowledge of ice processes, sensitive gain can be obtained.
