|||||
|
|||||
| The objective of this project was to develop a practical application guide to provide a useful reference for identifying and evaluating power quality waveform distortion and harmonic phenomena. This report includes relevant standards-related information and representative waveforms for many of the common harmonic problems that occur on the electric power system. This report presents the complex subject of power system harmonics using easily understandable terms, guidelines, and examples. In addition, it presents industry best practices for mitigating harmonics. This report provides a summary of the most important power quality related problems associated with power system harmonics. Methods for identifying these problems, determining their effect on utility and customer systems, and applying common solutions are also included in the report. The report includes an introductory section that provides guidelines for identifying and classifying power system waveform distortion, a review of power system harmonics, and a number of examples showing common waveform distortion characteristics. There are also sections that include guidelines for monitoring and simulating power system harmonics, power conditioning alternatives for mitigating harmonics, and a number of representative case studies. This report provides utility distribution and power quality engineers with a summary of powersystem harmonics phenomena and commonly applied methods for reducing their effect on utility and customer power systems. Keywords: Power Quality, Harmonics, Resonance, Harmonic Filter, Power Conditioning |
