Power Quality Survey 2000 - "Shooting for Gold"

This report details the results of the Canadian Distribution Power Quality Survey (1999-2000). The power quality baseline that this survey established has been recognized by the electricity industry as a prerequisite for utilities. It represents the minimum ‘Bronze’ level of quality that will define future ‘Silver’ and ‘Gold’ standards.
Over 400 sites all across Canada were evaluated using the acclaimed Power Quality Measurement Protocol developed for CEATI in order to establish a rigorous and verified baseline of the electrical power quality level that Canadian electrical utilities would be able to supply to their customers in accordance with newly developed IEC and IEEE Standards.
The survey measured a great number of indices, among them harmonics, frequency, unbalanced voltage, and swell. Precise care was taken in statistical analysis, with measurements having been taken at random sites on a weekly basis at the point of common coupling (PCC). Sites were categorized based on voltage, load density, customer-type, and whether they were a 3-phase or a 1-phase operation.Continuous evaluation was conducted at each of the 400+ sites over a 7-day period.
