Wildlife Tracking System

One of the most effective ways to track an animal in the wild is to equip it with a GPS collar. Using the Navstar Global Positioning System (GPS), a constellation of 24 satellites that orbit the earth and transmit navigational data, Lotek GPS collars provide an accurate means of monitoring animal movements through a variety of terrains and climates

The Lotek GPS_1000 Monitoring System, designed by CEATI and Lotek Engineering, was introduced to the wildlife research community in 1994. Since that time, its accuracy and powerful attributes have assisted biologists worldwide in better identifying movement and activity patterns of large mammals, from North American caribou to African elephants. The detailed positional information provided by these Global Positioning System collars has proved invaluable in helping researchers make informed decisions regarding wildlife management issues.

The Technology

The GPS_1000 system consists of one or more animal collars and a command unit, organized in a local network. It gives you:

• two-dimensional root mean squared (2DRMS) differential accuracy, to within 10 meters
• automatic continuous location data temperature and activity sensor data remote operation
• long term data storage recovery mode
• the ability to modify and uplink sampling regimes in the field
