This Guide is an update of HPLIG project #0329 Hydroelectric Turbine Generator Unit Guide for Erection Tolerances and Shaft System Alignment. It is similarly split into 6 volumes:

PART I: DEFINITIONS

PART II: VERTICAL SHAFT UNITS WITH FRANCIS TURBINES OR REVERSIBLE PUMP-TURBINES

PART III: VERTICAL SHAFT UNITS WITH PROPELLER OR KAPLAN TURBINES

PART IV: VERTICAL SHAFT UNITS WITH IMPULSE TURBINES

PART V: MAINTENANCE OF VERTICAL SHAFT UNITS (ALL TYPES OFTURBINES OR PUMP-TURBINES) LIMITING VALUES FOR KEY PARAMETERS

PART VI: MODERN ALIGNMENT TOOLS

The 2015 update has resulted in several improvements to the document. A definition for axial magnetic alignment was added to Part I – Definitions, and several changes were made to all Parts to clarify ambiguities, remove errors and emphasize limitations on intended use of specific tolerances. Updates to reflect the hydroelectric industry’s adoption of new alignment tools were introduced where appropriate to the text.
