The “Hydro Generator Turbine Vibration and Balancing Guide” provides a consistent set of definitions for terms commonly used in the design, operation and maintenance of the components and systems used on hydroelectric generator units.
The defined terms are intended to be used in conjunction with other Parts of the “CEA Alignment Guide” which provides additional information, including key parameters, tolerances, testing, and verification procedures for various types of hydroelectric turbine-generator units.
The “Hydro Generator Turbine Vibration and Balancing Guide” is original, published in 2018 and based mainly on feedback received from experienced users who are active in the hydroelectric industry. The format for this guide is the “HYDROELECTRIC TURBINE - GENERATOR UNITS GUIDE FOR ERECTION TOLERANCES AND SHAFT SYSTEM ALIGNMENT,” CEATI REPORT No. T052700-0329. Where possible, the same definitions are used for equivalent parameters in Part 1. A great deal of the text from the ALIGNMENT GUIDE is retained in “Appendix A” of the “Hydro Generator Turbine Vibration and Balancing Guide” as well, since this is expected to be a stand-alone document.
Defined terms are consolidated into Appendix B – Definitions. Paragraphs, tables, and figures which could lead to confusion or misinterpretation are revised. Information was added to the text based on the experience of the “Hydro Generator Turbine Vibration and Balancing Guide” reviewers, whose suggestions for improvements were obtained through the use of a review process. For ease of use, cross-references on text headings, figures, and tables were added, and the appearance of all tables and figures were made consistent to improve readability.
