The objective of this initiative is to develop a framework for the comparison of various materials used in the design of overhead lines based on a Life Cycle Cost Analysis (LCCA). The analysis must include not only the initial capital cost but also the cost of maintenance, cost of expected failure as well the outage cost realistically.  The expectation is that the guide will provide a framework to carry out a LCCA in the respective utility’s jurisdiction for lines that are using the above materials and construction types. Three example problems at the 230kV level should be considered with the following line configurations (1) a tubular pole structure and (2) an H-Framed structure and (3) a lattice structure.
