This project was completed to provide member utilities with a guide for assessing the condition of their overhead distribution line assets and applying appropriate maintenance activities to address this condition. This report discusses the types of inspections and tests – along with the frequency of those tests – used to identify the conditions of assets. Data collected from inspections and general asset information required to make effective maintenance decisions is utilized for this project. A list of conditions of overhead assets was compiled, with descriptions for two different risk levels of each condition. The first level is when a condition first becomes evident; the second is when a maintenance activity is required to prevent an outage or failure. Photos of these conditions are included where available. Maintenance activities are provided for each condition at the two aforementioned risk levels.
