This manual describes how to use the CEATI Fan and Pump VSD calculator (henceforth referred to as the calculator) to compute first-year annual electrical energy savings (kWh) for a fan/pump that has been or will be upgraded by the addition of a Variable Speed Drive (VSD).
This manual explains the working of the accompanying Excel workbook. The workbook also includes manual contents as part of its “help” functionality.The calculator is designed to be used in conjunction with on-site data collection. Included among the data to be collected are electrical measurements, which must be made by a trained electrical worker.
The user of the calculator must determine basic motor and fan/pump specifications as well as a system operating point. Familiarity with fan and pump systems may be necessary for this latter task. In addition, the user should be familiar with basic spreadsheet operations.
The calculator can be useful in two scenarios:
1) Predictive: Used prior to installing a VSD so that the costs and benefits of a potential application can be evaluated;
2) Evaluative: Used in order to assess the savings that have resulted from the VSD.
