A process for simultaneously removing sulphur dioxide and nitrogen oxides was developed at Ontario Hydro's 640 MJ/h Combustion Research Facility and involved the integration of reburning with sorbent slurry injection. The study was conducted simulating boiler operating conditions at Lambton and Lakeview thermal generating stations by using a medium sulphur eastern US bituminous coal as primary fuel and natural gas as reburn fuel. Propane/butane mixtures and US coal were also used as reburn fuels.
