The objective of this evaluation was to compare four advanced limestone slurry FGD systems (counter-current, co-current, combination co-curent counter-current and jet bubbling reactor). The systems had to meet the design and performance requirements established by the CEA and produce a commercial grade gypsum by-product while burning a high sulphur coal.

System characteristics and economics are presented for two Canadian Power Plants: Ontario Hydro's Nanticoke Unit 8 (510 MW) and Nova Scotia Power's Lingan Units 1 and 2 (300 MW, total).
