This study involved the development and testing of an advanced capability for Thermal Power Plant requirements regarding the measurement of loads on support hanger rods. It has been determined that the approach pursued in this project, which is based upon a rigorous theoretical development, is significantly superior to the conventional methods of hanger rod load measurement in terms of: accuracy, ease of use, speed of implementation, and flexibility in application. It is expected that, with some further refinement of the prototype hardware, the method of hanger rod load measurement developed in this study will become the method of choice for general Thermal Power Plant requirements with regard to boilers as well as to pressure vessels and piping systems.
