This project was an assessment of current water use, reuse and wastewater treatment practices at electric utilities. The project was specifically targeted at thermal generating stations which are equipped with wet limestone flue gas desulfurization systems (FGDs).
To achieve the objectives of this study, a detailed literature search was performed using the DIALOG and Can/Ole information systems in order to obtain up-to-date technical data. In addition, a detailed questionnaire was sent to selected FGD vendors and users in order to obtain information on current practices being employed. Information obtained from these activities was summarized on a consistent and comparable basis with emphasis being placed on the three Canadian FGDs which are presently under construction. Also included in the report is a review of current FGD wastewater analytical methods and flow monitoring techniques and their limitations.
