The goals of this program were twofold. A literature review was conducted of sorbent injection technologies which reduce S02 emissions from coal and oil-fired power plants. The purpose of the review is to provide utilities serviced by the CEA with current information on the various sorbent injection technologies which will allow them to make informed decisions on acid rain gas control technologies. Systems are included which inject sorbents at different temperature ranges (different injection locations) to take advantage of different types of S02-sorbent chemistry, utilize different sorbent as a slurry, and recycle sorbent. The second portion of the program conducted engineering and economic assessments of selected S02 control technologies for three site specific scenarios. The S02 control technologies evaluated were furnace sorbent injection, HALT and ADVACATE.
