Join us this November when we bring our transmission and distribution events back together – reunited to form the CEATI T&D Conference! This event will take place in Fort Worth, TX on Nov 14-15, 2023 and will cover all T&D assets including transmission and distribution lines, as well as substations, grounding & lightning, and vegetation management. With focus on utility best practices, tools, and technologies to improve grid resiliency and reliability, attendees will gain a better understanding of opportunities and tools available to aid in the adaptation to regulatory requirements and climate change.

Call For Abstracts

We are pleased to announce a Call for Abstracts for CEATI’s Transmission and Distribution Conference taking place on November 14-15, 2023. This event will cover all T&D assets including transmission and distribution lines, as well as substations, grounding & lightning, and vegetation management. Thought leaders and experts from the industry are invited to submit presentation abstracts on the themes described below.

IMPORTANT – Abstracts are due by 4:00pm ET on March 31, 2023. A notification of acceptance will be provided no later than June 5th, 2023. Abstracts shall be evaluated based on their applicability to the subject matter and their technical merits. Proponents are encouraged to emphasize work conducted for their electric utility clients.  

Event Overview:

CEATI’s T&D Conference will focus on utility best practices, tools, and technologies to improve grid resiliency and reliability. Attendees will gain a better understanding of opportunities and tools available to aid in the adaptation to regulatory requirements and climate change. Presentations covering workforce development and training are also of interest as they relate to each of the technical tracks.  

Themes:  

Aging Infrastructure and Equipment Reliability  

  • Design assumptions, equipment operations, and maintenance planning and actions 
  • Managing the life cycle of equipment and cost optimization  
  • T&D infrastructure condition assessment (including overhead lines, underground cables, and buried grounding systems) 
  • Reliability based inspection planning 
  • Repair vs. replacement strategies  
  • Supply chain and inventory management strategies

Preparation for and Response to Extreme Events  

  • Climate change adaptation and improving resilience to extreme events 
  • Risk assessment and long-term planning for grid resiliency and climate adaptation
  • Power system modelling and hardening options
  • Changes in design and construction standards in response to expected climate change 
  • Planning and operations of emergency response during and after extreme climatic events 
  • New technologies to improve lightning response, protection and performance 

Wildfire Prevention and Mitigation

  • Regulations, guidelines, and best practices 
  • Identification and detection of ignition events  
  • System design, inspection & maintenance actions to mitigate and eliminate ignition events  
  • Integrated vegetation management strategies and best practices 

Clean Energy and Emerging Technology 

  • Integration of intermittent renewables and impacts on the grid
  • Evolving role of the electricity meter and associated AMI data along with applications and grid edge applications
  • Impact of changing end-user usage on the planning and operation of the grid. Examples include but not limited to: 
  • Impacts of electrification, including impacts on transmission and distribution grid infrastructure

  • Distributed Energy Resource (DER) integration at the individual and community level, such as rooftop solar, and vehicle to grid

  • Switch from natural gas to electric heating
  • Micro-grids and powering end of line sites and remote communities                                                       

Safety and Security 

  • Safety impacts and response to the evolving grid such as reverse power flow and stray voltage  
  • Grounding system safety – deterministic versus probabilistic analysis 
  • Physical protection of infrastructure and security 
  • Safe practices during station expansion projects 
  • Copper theft – challenges and mitigation practices

Presenter Guidelines

PRESENTER TIMELINE

Important Dates:

  • Abstracts due: 31st March 2023
  • Presenter award/regret notifications: 5th June 2023
  • Presenter acceptance of opportunity due: 26th June 2023
  • Deadline for draft presentations: 12th September 2023
  • Deadline for final presentations: 20th October 2023

PRESENTER GUIDELINES

Presentations should adhere to the guidelines set forth by CEATI International:

  • PowerPoint slides should be 16:9 ratio
  • Presenters must submit slides in PowerPoint format (.pptx/ .ppt) with a maximum of 25 slides
  • Presentations will be distributed to attendees in PDF form
  • Presentation time will be 35 minutes followed by 10 minutes for Q&A (45 minutes in total)
  • All presenters must register for the event and submit headshot and short biography (2-3 sentences)

Subsequent to submission, presenters may continue to revise presentations but must submit their revised files on flash drive at a minimum of one (1) day in advance of their scheduled presentation time.

When you participate in a CEATI event, be it as an attendee, exhibitor, presenter, speaker, moderator or in any other capacity whatsoever, you will be participating in an event where photography, as well as video and audio recording is likely to occur.

By participating in the CEATI event, you consent to photography, audio recording, video recording and its/their release, publication, exhibition, or reproduction to be used for news, web casts, promotional purposes, telecasts, advertising, inclusion on web sites, or for any other purpose(s) that CEATI deems fit to use. You release CEATI, its officers, directors, employees and consultants, and each and all persons involved from any liability connected with the taking, recording, digitizing, distribution, or publication of photographs, computer images, video and/or audio recordings.

By entering the event platform, you waive all rights you may have to any claims for payment or royalties in connection with any exhibition, streaming, webcasting, televising, or other publication of these materials, regardless of the purpose or sponsoring of such exhibiting, broadcasting, webcasting, or other publication irrespective of whether a fee for admission or sponsorship is charged. You also waive any right to inspect or approve any photo, video, or audio recording taken by or on behalf of CEATI or the person or entity designated to do so by CEATI.

In addition, the event will be monitored for unauthorized recording. By attending the CEATI event or accessing the event platform, you agree not to record or digitize any parts of the presentation, without CEATI’s express written consent.

Housing Warning!

It has come to our attention that unauthorized housing companies have been contacting CEATI International exhibitors and attendees via email and phone and in general, misrepresenting themselves as an official housing vendor for CEATI International. We highly caution you from engaging unauthorized companies because if/when issues arise, CEATI International management does not have the ability to provide assistance in solving them.

The CEATI Young Professionals Group (YPG) is a networking, mentorship, and peer-to-peer support group of inspiring professionals who are new to the electric utility industry. All are welcome, but the target audience is those with less than 10 years of experience in the industry. The YPG networking event will be held during this week. Details will follow soon!

 Women in Power Networking Reception (15th November, 5:30 PM - 7:00 PM)

CEATI’s Women in Power program aims to facilitate networking, promote engineering, and provide a forum for women in the industry to collaborate and share common challenges and strategies.
